If you have fine hair, then you’re familiar with the challenges of styling this hair type. Although soft and beautiful, fine hair doesn’t always lend itself to hair products and tools, making it nearly impossible to add bounce and texture to your hairdo.
But just because you have fine or thin hair, doesn’t mean you can’t have a perfect hair day. The professionals at one of the leading makeup artist schools, Cosmix School of Makeup Artistry, have offered the following tips on how to style and enhance fine hair.
Use the right styling products. While fine hair might not work well with all hair products, there are some products designed just for this type of hair. If you want to add volume and bounce to otherwise flat hair, try products such as volumizing gels and root lift sprays. To add texture, try salt spray or other texturing gels. But make sure to avoid products that are too heavy or oily to prevent the hair from looking even flatter.
Try hot rollers. Forgot about this essential hair styling tool? We all did. When it comes to adding volume, though, it’s hard to compare to the power of hot rollers. After a blow dry, use Velcro rollers to add more bounce to your hair. Leave them in for about five to 10 minutes. Once done, spray your hair with a flexible hold hairspray for perfect curls that appear thick and beautiful.
Master the curling iron. While not everyone has a set of hot rollers, chances are you do have a curling iron in your possession. If you don’t want to use hot rollers, the curling iron is another great way to add volume to thin hair. The secret to using a curling iron is to learn how to use it for your hair type.
To give the illusion of volume, use a curling iron with a smaller barrel size, such as .75 inch. You can also add incredible volume to your hair by creating large, cascading waves using a large barrel size such as the 1.5-2 inch. Whether you want small or large curls, a great way to increase volume is to part your hair on an angle and near the base of the hair.
While we were not all born with thick, luscious hair, we can achieve the illusion of volume using the tricks mentioned above. For more hair and makeup tips, consider taking hair or makeup classes provided at Cosmix Inc.
